What Does Clinical Evidence Say?

A randomized clinical study enrolled 30 patients requiring bilateral surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. The absorbable gelatin sponge was cut into desired size cubes. Following randomization, one extraction socket was packed with the sponge and sutured with interrupted 3-0 silk sutures, while the opposite socket was left unfilled and sutured similarly.
