World Kidney Day 2025: Enhancing Post-Dialysis bleeding control with SURGISPON® DIAL

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) affects millions worldwide, yet early detection can significantly improve outcomes. World Kidney Day 2025, observed on March 13, highlights the theme “Are Your Kidneys OK? – Detect Early, Protect Kidney Health,” emphasizing the need for proactive measures to maintain kidney health. With millions of people suffering from CKD, it is crucial to highlight the significance of early detection and effective treatment options, including dialysis [1].

The Role of Dialysis in Managing Kidney Disease

When kidney function declines significantly, dialysis becomes a life-saving treatment for many patients. Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis help remove toxins, excess fluids, and waste products from the blood, performing the vital functions that failing kidneys can no longer handle. However, one of the common challenges during dialysis is post-procedure bleeding, which can cause discomfort and complications for patients.

SURGISPON® DIAL: A Solution for Post-Dialysis Bleeding

To address bleeding concerns after dialysis, SURGISPON® DIAL serves as an optimal haemostatic dialysis bandage. This absorbable gelatin sponge offers superior absorption capabilities, providing a reliable and convenient solution for post-renal dialysis patients.Designed specifically for post-renal dialysis patients, SURGISPON®DIAL,provides rapid and reliable bleeding control without compromising the integrity of the fistula or graft. These advanced solutions not only reduce the time required for post-dialysis care but also decrease the burden on healthcare staff, allowing them to focus on other critical aspects of patient care.

BENEFITS OF SURGISPON® DIAL

🧽 Porous structure – Absorbs 45 times its own weight of blood

⏳ Bleeding time – Stops bleeding in 2 to 5 min in most of the cases

💊 Carrier/Co-adjuvant for drugs – Can be used dry/combination with antibiotics due to its neutral pH

Accelerated clotting – Provides a mechanical matrix that promotes platelet aggregation, facilitating clot formation

📏 Size availability – Convenient sizes, specially designed to cover puncture sites. (30x30x10mm, 20x20x07mm)

⚡ Reduced Recovery Time – Minimizes post-operative time. Faster return to normal activities

🚫 No Post-Haemodialysis Complications or infections

☢️ Gamma sterilized & ready to use

👌 Easy application & painless removal

🛡️ Non-toxic, Non-allergenic, Non-immunogenic, Non-pyrogenic

WHY USE SURGISPON® DIAL OVER CONVENTIONAL GAUZE??

Clinical Evidence Supporting Gelatin Sponge (haemostatic dialysis bandage) Over Conventional Gauze

A study comparing the use of gelatin sponge and conventional gauze at the puncture point of femoral vein dialysis in patients with hematological diseases found significant advantages:

The patients were divided into two groups:

  • Control group – Gauze dressing + Transparent dressing + External application of ice to stop bleeding
  • Observation group – Absorbent gelatin sponge + Transparent dressing + Elastic bandage + External application of ice to stop bleeding

Results

  • The number of dressing changes per day significantly reduced (1-2 times)
  • Blood leakage at puncture point significantly reduced (about 10ml)
  • Bleeding duration (2-3 days) in the observation group were less than those in the control group (P<0.1)

Promoting Kidney Health for a Better Future

On World Kidney Day 2025, let’s emphasize the importance of kidney health by advocating for:

  • Regular screenings to detect kidney disease early
  • A balanced diet to support kidney function
  • Proper hydration to maintain overall renal health [3]
  • Advanced haemostats for dialysis like SURGISPON® DIALto improve dialysis outcomes

At Aegis Lifesciences, we are dedicated to developing cutting-edge solutions that enhance kidney care and support healthcare professionals. By working together, we can drive awareness, innovate better treatments, and empower kidney disease patients with superior care solutions. Let’s work together to spread awareness and ensure improved care for kidney disease patients worldwide.
